Nobel Peace Prize for Obama

OK... the Nobel Peace Prize committee has announced its selection of the recipient for 2009 Peace Prize. I am not too clear on the kinds of criteria the committee uses in its selection. Just looking at the title, the prize is for someone (or some group or some institution) that has helped in promoting at least regional peace (let alone global peace). I am not sure exactly how President Obama has helped in either of this categories. Don't mistake me, I am a bleeding heart democrat. When the peace prize was awarded to President Jimmy Carter (for his involvement in "Habitat for Humanity" and being an election observer in many politically troubled countries, for negotiating peace during hostage situations etc.,), I was ecstatic. I was a bit less ecstatic when it was awarded to Vice President Al Gore (for his work on spreading the awareness on Global Warming) in 2007. Now, I am totally disappointed. What an irony that on the same day he was awarded the peace prize President Obama is considering sending more troops to Afghanistan. Surely these additional troops are meant to kill more people (whichever group they belong to), it is still a KILLING. Where is the peace element in this? Further during his campaign, all President Obama did was to promote himself. I wish President Obama would consider declining the prize with grace and humilty.



Ironically few of the persons who really believed in peace and promoting peace, were never given the prize. Of course I am talking about Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

An Introduction to my blog

This is my first blogging post. So many times, I watch the news or read about certain things and I do not necessarily agree with them. I am sure (and I hope) there may be others who may agree with me. I am hoping that those who agree with me, will post their views as well... Of cours, more than hearing from those who agree with me, I prefer to hear from those who DO NOT agree with me. Let us have a dialogue... I plan to post my profile with my picture soon..
